When Will Medical Cannabis Dispensaries Open in Kentucky?🗓️

Medical cannabis was legalized in Kentucky on January 1, 2025, but it still isn’t available for purchase. Experts say that medical cannabis is still a few months away from being available in the Bluegrass state. Here’s what you need to know:

The Governors Estimation

Governor Andy Beshear spoke on the topic earlier this week and said the wait shouldn’t be much longer. He estimates that medical cannabis will be available to patients this fall or winter.

Whats Causing the Delay?

It has been nearly 7 full months since medical cannabis was legalized in Kentucky and there isn’t a single dispensary open. Dispensaries do not want to open without product to sell and cultivators don’t want to begin growing without a retail location to sell their products. This back-and-forth has lead to the delay we are experiencing with the medical cannabis roll out in Kentucky.
